FG Principal Advocates For Collaborative Efforts On More College Infrastructures

Mrs Oluwatofunmi Akamo, Director Principal, Federal Government College in Ijanikin, Lagos, has emphasised the need for support from education stakeholders, alumni, and philanthropists to enhance the teaching and learning environment in the college.

Akamo said this at the 42nd Valedictory Service for the graduating class of 2023  of the college in Lagos on Sunday.

Akamo highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to address challenges such as the need for more hostels, improved infrastructure like good drainages, street lights, security lights, and better ICT laboratories.

She said, “Despite the numerous achievements the college recorded since I took over the mantle of leadership of the college in 2020, the college is still confronted with some teething challenges.

“I believe the college can easily overcome through our concerted efforts in addressing challenges which include; more boys and girls hostels, lacks of good drainages, more street lights, more security lights and improvement in the ICT laboratories.”

Akamo expressed appreciation to the Parent-Teacher Association and the Old Students Association for their consistent support to the college and solicited their ongoing assistance.

“We shall continue to solicit more support services from them and reckoning with the college at all times,”Akamo added.

She encouraged the graduating students to remain focused and utilise the moral and academic experiences gained during their time in the college to build a successful future.

Mrs Toun Aderele, the Global President of the Old Students Association, emphasised the transformative nature of secondary school, saying it is a time of self discovery, personal growth and countless opportunities.

Adenrele urged the students to embrace challenges, reminding them that the alumni community is there to offer guidance and support.

“I urge you to embrace the challenges that come your way,  they will help you grow stronger and more resilient.

“Always remember that you are not alone, the alumni community stands beside you,ready to offer guidance,mentorship and support,” she said.

Pastor Timothy Ojo, Chairman of the ceremony and an alumnus; Class of 1981, appealed to parents to instill good moral values in their children.

Also, Mrs Mutiat Orolu-Balogun, Convener of the Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative, advised the students to seek wisdom in all their endeavors.

Orolu-Balogun, also a lecturer, Faculty of Law, Lagos State University, Ojo, said that wisdom would help them to acquire all their dreams and anchor them to navigate life in future.

“It is through wisdom that we gain understanding. So, always ask God for divine wisdom.

“Never be enticed with fake life such as internet fraud, called “Yahoo-Yahoo” and don’t be of bad characters,”she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that over 500 students graduated from the college, and both Christian and Muslim clerics offered prayers for their success.
