 ANJET dissociates self from NIHOTOUR's training for travel journalists  June 28, 2024 The Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism (ANJET) has jettisoned a training session organised for travel journalists by the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) in Lagos. This was due to NIHOTOUR's action of replacing credible and verified industry media practitioners in the country with  bloggers and part timers, masquerading as journalists, while shunning the association’s members. The Umbrella body of private sector tourism media practitioners in the country, the (ANJET) has officially reported NIHOTOUR to the Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John. Lagos Aviation Academy Expands To Bridge Training Gap

The Lagos Aviation Academy (LAA), on Tuesday, unveiled a two-story  building to bridge training gap in the aviation industry. The academy, a subsidiary of Finchglow Holdings, trains aviation professionals  for successful careers in the industry. It is located on Toyin Street, Ikeja. The Group Managing Director of Finchglow Holdings, Mr Bernard Bankole, said at the unveiling that development of a country or an organisation would require adequate education of the workforce. Bankole said that it had become necessary to add value to the aviation industry. According to Bankole, the LAA had, in seven years, graduated more than 2,000 aviation professionals. He expressed the hope  that, with the new building,  more professionals would be trained.   The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University of Education  (ASUU-LASUED)  Chapter, has called on Lagos State Government and the university’s management to address its demands without delay.  The union had planned a peaceful rally for Tuesday but it did not hold.  Coronation Merchant Bank records 62% growth in gross earnings in 2023 Lagos, June 22, 2022.  Coronation Merchant Bank Ltd. on Friday said that its gross earnings grew to N61.6 billion for the year ended Dec. 31, 2023. The figure represents 62 per cent growth when compared to N37.9 billion recorded in 2022. Mr Babatunde Folawiyo, Chairman, Coronation Merchant Bank, said this at the ninth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the financial institution held in Lagos. Folawiyo stated that the bank reported a robust financial performance and recovery for the year under review and showcased significant growth in its key metrics despite a challenging economic environment. He highlighted that the bank’s profit before tax also increased by 58.1 per cent to N3.47 billion in year 2023, marking a significant recovery from a loss of N8.28 billion in 2022.   A  Professor of Human Genetics and Bioinformatics, Idowu Taiwo,  has called on governments to establish genetic centres for pre-marital and marital counselling in many parts of Nigeria. “In one of our population genetic studies, the frequency of carriers of sickle cell genotype is 25 per cent among the Yorubas in Lagos State. “The result revealed the importance of a rigorous awareness campaigns and proper genetic counselling regarding sickle cell disorder in Nigeria,” Taiwo, a lecturer at the University of Lagos, said. The professor, who teaches at the university’s Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science, made the call  at the 18th Inaugural Lecture of the university on Wednesday.
