Army trains teaching staff for enhanced excellence in Command and military schools

The Nigerian Army is investing in training teaching staff of Command schools and military schools by equipping them with the requisite professional knowledge in line with best practices.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Farouk Mijinyawa said that the training would equip participants with contemporary teaching methods, digital technologies, improved admistration, emotional intelligence and professional ethics.

Mijinyawa said this at a two-day Training Workshop on Reorientation and Upskilling of Contract Staff in Nigerian Military School and Command Schools for Optimal Performance holding at Command Day Secondary School, TA Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja from Sept.2 to Sept.3.

The GOC appreciated the Chief Of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede for his visionary leadership which led to the decision to absorb temporary staff into the Command Schools system.

"This is a clear dermonstraton of empathy, compassion and a deep understanding of your contributions in the face of daunting challenges.

"This bold step has not only secured their future but also strengthened the foundation of the Command Schools system," he said.

Mijinyawa said that the workshop represented a significant investment in human capital development focused on enhancing excellence and improving current standards geared towards the efficient shaping of children.

"This workshop is also organised in line with the Command Philosophy of the COAS which places high premium on sound administration with education as one of the vital Components.

"I also apprecate the Nigerian Army Commander Education Corps for facilitating the realisation of this workshop," he said.

The GOC urged participants of the workshop to be open minded, participate actively in all the sessions and tap from the experiences of the resource persons.

"We expect you to adapt to innovative ideas and methods of instruction in line with best practice.

"You are the beacon of hope for our future generaton. I therefore urge you to uphold the standards of discipline, loyalty, competence, integrity and excellence that define the Nigerian Army as an institution.

"You have been entrusted with a great responsibility and I charge you to justify the confidence reposed in you," he said.

Mijinyawa said that he had no doubt that together, they could better transform the Nigerian Army Command Schools into shining beacons of discipline, knowledge and honour for generations to come.



Also speaking, the Corps Commander, Education, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Adebukola Oguntola said that 320 participants were physically present while over 4,000 participated virtually from across the country for the workshop.

Oguntola said that the workshop was also a precursor to continuous capacity building geared towards the rejigging of our schools to ensure optimal performance.

"What we begin here in Ikeja will, in due course, be replicated across all schools in phase two so that the standards and lessons gained here cascade through the system.

"These training workshop aligns with my Action Plan and marks the beginning of structured training and retraining of staff of Nigerian Military School/Command Schools for improved learning outcome," he said.

Oguntola said that the Nigerian Military School and Command schools served both military and civilian communities, and the standards of these schools’ rest on the commitment and professionalism of every teacher and administrator.

"Therefore the training is not just an academic exercise but a call to higher responsibility," the education corps commander said.
