Accelerate launches project to empower youths in creative industry

Accelerate, a digital, lifestyle and entertainment platform, has unveiled the ‘Phoenix Project’ to boost the creative industry and provide the resources needed for individuals to succeed.

Mrs Colette Otusheso, Accelerate’s Chief Executive Officer, made this known during the official launch of the Phoenix Project in Lagos on Friday.

Otusheso said that the new initiative powered by Access Bank Plc was an exciting learning platform aimed at expanding the creative potential of Nigeria’s youths.

She quoted a report by Jobberman as saying that the creative industry was positioned as the Nigerian second-largest employer and has the potential to produce 2.7 million jobs by 2025.

According to her, the industry will also employ additional set to contribute five trillion naira to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

She said: “Our society is filled with large pool of resourceful, creative and energetic young people seeking opportunities to advance as well as build rewarding careers borne out of passion.

“Through the Phoenix Project, we are committed to empowering the next generation of creatives by providing them with unique opportunities to realise their creative potential.

“Over the years, Accelerate has supported the creative industry through similar platforms such as the Accelerate Filmmakers Project.

”The project is a platform that birthed success stories such as Micahel ‘Ama, Psalmist’ Akinrogunde, whose short film Penance, won the 2018 AMVCA for best short film.”

The chief executive said that Phoenix Project would also support the Federal Government’s effort at addressing youths unemployment over the next five years.

She noted that this was by leveraging the abundance of creative resources available to empower youths in the industry.

Otusheso said that Phoenix Project covered 12 knowledge areas such as; social media for business, entertainment law, advertising your brand, graphic design, becoming an Influencer, introduction to film and scriptwriting.

She said that others were vlogging business, introduction to songwriting, introduction to film production, entertainment and fashion.

“The knowledge areas are grouped into three bundles namely; film and production, business of entertainment, and social media for business; and they are built across the project’s beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, “Otusheso said.

She said that a seamless learning platform had been integrated into the Phoenix Project’s website to provide participants with a unified learning experience.

She added that participants at the beginner level of the courses would be taught online, while the intermediate and advanced levels were learner-exclusive and would be taught in-person.

”The intermediate and advanced levels will be taught in person in collaboration with the School of Media and Communication at the Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos,” she said.

Otusheso said that at the advanced level, high-achieving individuals would have access to the Phoenix Den, a seed fund, designed to help participants soar and expand their creative endeavours.

She noted that the project had taken a deliberate approach to assemble an impactful line-up of facilitators from the creative industry, to ensure a well-rounded learning experience for programme participants.

Otusheso added that interested people should apply through the website https://phoenixprojectng.com
