Fitness Is A Must For Military Personnel As Defenders Of Nation's Territorial Integrity - AOC

The Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) AVM Hassan Abubakar had said that physical fitness was essential to the military as defenders of the nation's territorial integrity.

Abubakar said this at the NAF Second Quarter Road March Exercise which held on Saturday around Logistics Command and it's environs in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that all NAF formations in Lagos State participated in the exercise targeted at keeping military personnel physically fit, healthy and mentally prepared for duties.

The AVM said that sports and physical fitness in the military enabled personnel to remain optimally fit in carrying out their responsibilities.

"Sporting activities foster discipline, regimentation and esprit de corps which is vital to our efficiency and cohesion as a fighting force.

"This is why the service places a very high premium on physical fitness and has continued to invest heavily, in it's actualisation," he said.

Abubakar said that the exercise was inline with one of the key drivers of the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) vision, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao which is to foster a disciplined workforce essential for combat readiness.

"To achieve this, we must be willing, able and ready, at all times, to professionally defeat our adversaries in the course of duty and sacrifice to our fatherland.

"Therefore, both our collective and individual roles are critical to the attainment of these objectives especially with regards to the various security challenges currently bedeviling our dear country.

"In this regard, the quality of our physical and mental state is directly proportional to our combat readiness," he said.

The AVM urged military to regularly partake in exercises and not to wait for airforce organised fitness exercises and programmes before engaging in sports.

"We must create time to engage in activities and undertakings that will build our strength, endurance, agility and coordination to ensure optimal performance of our duties and responsibilities.

"I urge you all to continue to be disciplined and law abiding wherever you may find yourselves as good ambassadors of the Nigerian Air Force," he said.

Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the CAS for his inspirational leadership to the NAF as well as his continuous support to the Logistics Command.
