Chieftaincy Title: Oyagaga Family Urges Olubadan To Maintain Status Quo

 

Alhaji Rafiu Olasunkanmi, the family head of Oyagaga Ruling House in the ancient city of Ibadan,  has urged the Olubadan of Ibadan in Oyo State, Oba Lekan Balogun, not to recognise the Jolokosimi family as a ruling house.

Alhaji Usman, an octogenarian in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, stated that there was no contention in the Jòlokósimi family being a ruling house.

According to him, the Jolokosimi family is an extension of Oyagaga Ruling House which by virtue of custom, a ruling house cannot have two Mogaji titles.

Going down the history lane, the Oyagaga family head explained that the Jòlokósimi family are are indigenes of Ibadan but were adopted by their grandfather as an humanitarian act.

"The nominated Mogaji, Kola Azeez, is a grandson of Bangbegbe, a nephew of Oyagaga's step brother who hailed from Oyo State.

"The Mother of Oyagaga after divorce married to another man who hailed from Oyo town and gave birth to Jolokosimi 

"When business was not thriving for Jolokosimi in his father's hometown, Oyo, he migrated to Ibadan to stay with his step brother, Oyagaga.

"After Jolokosimi settled in Ibadan at the compound of Oyagaga, he went back home in Oyo and came back with his nephews Ojo and Bangbegbe.

"Oyagaga in his philanthropic act, accommodated these two nephews of Jolokosimi and gave them a house each on Oyagaga Family Land.

Bangbegbe is the grandfather of the nominated Mogaji, Kola Azeez," the Oyagaga family head narrated.

Alhaji Usman therefore urged Olubadan not to allow mischievous and unscrupulous persons in his administration and among the Council of Chiefs to destroy his good image and legacy of his predecessor.

He explained further that the late Olubadan, Saliu Adetunji had resolved the chieftaincy crisis and conferred the title of Mogaji on a prince, Ridwan Usman Adegboyega as Mogaji of Oyagaga Ruling House.

The family head thereby called on the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and relevant authorities to call the Olubadan and his Council of Chiefs to order so as to forestall crisis.

He noted that the decision of the Olubadan Council of Chiefs could re-awaken the longtime dispute which had been laid to rest by his predecessor.

Recall that the Oyagaga family had sent a petition to the Olubadan to register their displeasure with the decision of the council of chiefs to re-awaken the chieftaincy crisis that had been laid to rest by his predecessors.

Earlier on Monday, Oba Balogun, in a statement signed by his Personal Assistant (Media), Oladele Ogunsola, reiterated his commitment to equity, fairness and justice in the exercise of his traditional role.
