Personnel effectiveness, key to reducing court dockets – Judge

Justice Jumoke Pedro, Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse (LMDC) says capacity building , personnel effectiveness and data management were key to clearing court dockets.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports Pedro made the assertion at the opening of a two-day training for the staff and management of the LMDC on Tuesday in Lagos.

The training, supported by the Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment (SEDIN)programme of the German Development Agency (GIZ), had as its title:” Training on Personal Effectiveness and Data Management Skills of the LMDC.”

Pedro said that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) would benefit in the long run as the training of staff would impact on the effectiveness in resolving conflicts.

“LMDC is to provide enhanced access to justice to ensure that we help in clearing the dockets of the court through effective administration of justice.

“This training is  key to improved productivity, competitiveness and effectiveness in our day-to-day work and greatly impacting outcomes and results that we get from the job that we do,” she said.

Speaking further,  Pedro said that as the foremost Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre in Africa, LMDC uses mechanisms to allow parties mediate over their cases to reduce delays in hearing their cases.

Mrs Chinazo Okoye, the State Coordinator and Policy Advisor of GIZ-SEDIN, in her welcome address, said that contract enforcement was pertinent in driving investments, MSMEs growth and development.

According to Okoye, in any clime, an investor cannot invest where there are disputes that cannot be resolved, adding that contract enforcement was one of the indicators the World Bank uses to measure ease of doing business.

Dr Abimbola Osuchukwu, the training facilitator said that capacity building was essential in improving key roles of staff and management of LMDC in conflict resolutions, particularly for MSMEs.

Mrs Ekaete Augustine-Edet, another facilitator said that communication skills helps to drive efficiency.

NAN reports that the two-day training would hold in two batches on Aug. 16 to 17 and Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 respectively.

Also, the training participants would be awarded certificates at the end of each batch.
