The Western Naval Command, Lagos on Saturday, kicked off a 10km march with 1,350 navy personnel to develop physical and mental alertness to meet the dynamics of contemporary security operations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 3rd Quarter Route March held at Navy Town Ojo.

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Yakubu Wambai said that the exercise would enable reconditioning of the body to ensure fitness of personnel's availability and readiness for operations.

"I congratulate you for participating in the exercise. The exercise was to have held in September but was rescheduled to October due to the Navy Games," he said.

Wambai added that the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Adm. Awwal Gambo was impressed with the conduct of personnel during the 12th Navy Games.

"On that I say Bravo Zulu to all of you.

"I thank the CNS for the construction of the ultramodern sport complex from where we carried out the exercises.

"This edifice has come to stay and only us can sustain it's availability, so we should use it properly so that others coming behind us will have a place to exercise," he said.

The FOC said that the command will continue to strive to make available administrative processes that will cater for the welfare of personnel.

"If there is anything that affects one, it means it affects us as a command.

"So, do not hesitate to key into the Divisional system of making your request in time such that the needful will be done," Wambai said.
