Optimal Performance In A Complex Society is Undebatable Says Army Commander

 


The Commander, Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Maj.-Gen. Adeyemi Alabi on Tuesday said that ensuring that Nigerian Army officers gained and sustained optimal performance in a complex environment could not be underestimated.

Alabi said this at the second phase of the Nigerian Army Leadership Development Seminar 2022 with theme: Leadership Strategies for Optimal Performance in the Nigerian Army for Lieutenant Colonels and Colonels.

The three-day seminar would hold at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA) from Nov.15 to Nov. 17.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the first phase and opening ceremony of the seminar held in May 2022.


Alabi, also the Special Guest of Honour said that the choice of the theme was a clear testimony for achieving the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya's vision for the Nigerian Army.

He added that the selection of the team was made at the right time given the concern of the government and all stakeholders in the nation to creatively apply new methodologies to tackle socio-economic problems through dynamic leadership.

"Yahaya's vision is a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions in a joint environment in the defense of Nigeria.

"It is important to develop leaders with cognitive abilities for the management of human and material resources inline with the world managerial best practices.

"So, the need to improve our skills and develop leadership capacity for transformation in order to gain and sustain competitive advantage in this volatile, uncertain and complex environment cannot be underestimated," he said.

The commander said that the accomplishments of Nigerian Army goals and objectives especially at this premium time depended on prompt and precise application of leadership capabilities as leaders.

"The Nigerian Army constitutes an important component of the Nigerian society therefore, it deserves competent, effective and efficient leaders that will translate ideas into practical road maps for action.

"Leadership in the Nigerian Army is imperative in view for emerging security challenges which have manifested in rampant kidnapping for ransom, banditry and increasing wave of terrorism across the country.

"To successfully handle these current challenges, there is need for decisive, skillful and self motivated leadership across all chains of command," he said.

Also, the Commandant of NASFA, Brig.-Gen. Felix Ohunyeye said that the seminar would equip participants with the right skills, values and orientation to carryout their roles effectively and efficiently.

Ohunyeye was represented by Col. Abubakar Saleh, Deputy Commandant, NASFA.

According to Ohunyeye, the seminar was also crafted to prepare participants for the day to day assignments which require innovative and creative attitudeas key drivers of effective leadership in the Nigerian Army.

"The seminar will include series of presentations, classroom exercises, group discussion, relevant case studies and interactive sessions.

"This is to ensure a good knowledge of requisite problem solving techniques in order to foster deeper understanding on the roles of operational level leaders in analysing and resolving contemporary issues," Ohunyeye said.
