CNS Says Increased Naval Presence At Tongeji Island Would Improve Their Economic Activities

The Chief Of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Adm. Awwal Gambo has said that improved naval presence at Tongeji Island would help to improve the economic activities of the community.

Gambo recently said this at the Groundbreaking Ceremony and Foundation Laying Ceremony For The Construction Of Administrative Block at Tongeji Island, Ogun State.

The CNS said that the erection of administrative facilities and other infrastructure on the island was an indication of the Federal Government's commitment towards supporting the community's economic development and prosperity.

"We were here two months ago to assure the Akoko of Tongeji Island (traditional ruler) and his good people that the navy will continue to deepen it's presence on the island.

"This is inline with the Nigeria Navy's constitutional mandate and directive from the Federal government of Nigeria.

"The building which will be the canopy of administrative purposes will enhance operational efficiency of the outpost and personnel presence will improve protection in the island," he said.

According to Gambo, the project will be completed in February 2023 with all things being equal.

He said that the importance of the project could not be overemphasised because an increased presence of the military would help deter conflict and threat from neighbouring countries.
