Yuletide: NGO Distributes Gift Items, Cash In Lagos

A Non-Government Organisation(NGO), BeBe Foundation, on Thursday distributed gift items and cash to vulnerable persons in Lagos in the spirit of the Yuletide.

The News reports that beneficiaries were mostly people living with disabilities, widows, and those just released from prison.

Items shared include shoes, clothes, cream and seasonal packs with wheat and rice, while  N5000 cash was also given to each beneficiary.

Rev. Dr Stephen Oyinlola, Chairman of the group, said that the idea was to put smiles on some faces, especially those who could not afford three meals in a day, promising to be consistent with it.

“The issue here is that whereever you are, try to make people happy, let somebody be happy through you, that is the message we are passing out today.

“Most of the beneficiaries are visually impaired, they can not work and can not even afford meal three times in a day,” he said.

Also speaking, Dr Onyekachi Ubani, a donor and a legal practitioner, commended the group for making the vulnerable smile, especially at Yuletide.

He said that giving should be a habit the society should imbibe in fulfilment of the mandate of God and humanity.

“There is joy in giving, especially this period, God commends us to look towards the less privileged and members of the society to ensure they are not neglected,” Ubani said.

Also speaking, Mofe Oyatogun, the convener of the programme, appreciated everyone that contributed to the successful outing especially the Chief Executive officer of Mitv, Alhaji Muri Gbadeyanka and all members of Star FM.

Oyatogun said the idea was to bring back the African culture of community where an individual problem becomes everybody’s problem.

She encouraged beneficiaries to always believe that they were not left alone in spite of the tough times, and to do everything to avoid being depressed.

Mr Solomon Feyisetan, one of the beneficiaries, urged others not to sell the items given to them and commended the convener for the initiative.

He said that the beneficiaries should not lose hope, as they were not neglected in the society

Also Mrs funmi Thompson thanked all members the NGO especially Mrs  Oyatogun for her encouragement
