Dangote Refinery Launch: How PCN Members Partnered Other Security Agencies

Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) on Monday partnered other security agencies to render support for the official launching of the Dangote Refinery at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Ibeju Lekki.

Members of the PCN were seen in numbers stationed at strategic positions to maintain law and order throughout the proceedings.

The members displayed absolute professionalism, diligence and discharged their duties with tact and high sense of responsibility.

It can be recalled that the National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Amb. Dickson Akoh had said that signing the PCN Bill into law would aid in curbing insecurity in the country.

"A vast majority of Nigerian youths will get employed and engaged, thereby reducing many ills associated with youth restiveness.

"There will be less need to buy arms and ammunition, and money for such will be channelled to empowering the youths. That is the main vision of the Peace Corps of Nigeria," he said.

The National Assembly Conference Committee set up by both Senate and the House of Representatives to harmonize the Bill for an Act to establish the Nigeria Peace Corps had revently completed it's assignment and cleared coast for transmission of the Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.

The Peace Corps of Nigeria established over 24 years ago under the National Commandant, Professor Dickson Ameh Akoh is Incorporated in Nigeria under the Company and Allied Matters (CAMA) Act and accorded the Federal Government recognition through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

Due to the value driven programs of the Corps, aimed at the socio-economic empowerment of the Nigerian youths and its onerous contributions to peace building and advocacy, the United Nations in 2011 accorded the organization a Special Consultative Status while the African Union in 2016 accorded same status to the organization, thus, making it a member of the Social and Economic Councils of both the United Nations and the African Union.

So far, the organization has a well structured network of offices in the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory FCT.
