NGO Creates Digital Platform, Mentorship Programme For Young People

An NGO, Bluvard Education Initiative, has created a digital platform and mentorship programme to train young people on how to access the right network and sail through their career.

The Founder, Miss Esther Edward, made this known at a programme tagged “Creative Xpress’’ , organised by the NGO in partnership with the Nest Hub on Wednesday in Lagos.

Edward said that the programme was created where overlooked young creatives could access the right kind of network and support they require for them to succeed in their career.

“The creative xpress is a networking programme designed to leverage the power of creativity to push the boundaries of education and create an inclusive platform for young people, especially the young people from overlooked backgrounds, to connect with mentors and showcase their skills.

`After today’s programme, there is a post-one month mentorship programme for selected creatives. in which they will be paired specifically with people in their industries.

“For example, artists will be paired with art gallery, musicians will be paired with record label, because we all know that talent is universal but opportunity is not available,” she said.

Edward said that their major idea was to find and harness great talents among the youths, so they would not grow up living on their unrealised dreams.

“We also have a free digital library in Ikorodu, Lagos State, so that young people can have access to computer and internet

“I want the government to establish policies that will support programmes that involve non-profit organisations in Nigeria,” she said.

Mr Seye Olurotimi, founder, MSME Africa, called on government at all levels to establish enabling environment for young people to thrive, in expressing their creativity and businesses.

Olurotimi said that enabling environment would ease and make for achievement in doing businesses in the country

“We are here to support creativity and to see different innovations young people will come up with.

“We will nurture the young people on how they can be more creative and maintain it by starting their own businesses,” he said.

One of the participants, Miss Opeyemi Odeyemi, a singer, said that she believed the programme was a great opportunity for people to discover her talent.

Odeyemi said that after listening to great minds and mentors, the next thing was to achieve her goals because this would open doors for her and her voice would be heard.

“I will keep practising and trying what they taught me, because currently I just finished my youth service,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Bluvard Education Initiative is a youth-led NGO based in Lagos.

The organisation is focused on educating young people from low-income backgrounds in rural communities by leveraging the power of technology and creativity to promote future forward learning programmes.
