Lawmaker Olumegbon, Distributes Cash, Food Items To Vulnerables In Isale-Eko

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Princess Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon  (APC- Lagos Island 1), on Monday, distributed cash and food items to 300 members in the Isale-Eko community.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that various groups including the physically-challenged, elderly, artisans, market women, and men received the items at the Lagos Island Local Government premises.

Oyekan-Olumegbon said that the community outreach was in fulfillment of her promise of regularly making her constituents happy.

She said that it was also part of her commitment to continually grant access and interact with them to know their needs, saying that access was important in governance.

She appreciated them for their support during the elections, adding that more programmes would be reeled out for her constituents in the coming months.

“During the election period, I saw the level of support the community had for me and since then, I decided that I will be steadfast to ensure that I make everyone proud.

“I benefited a lot from this community while growing up in the Oba’s palace, now it is time for me to give back to the community that has shaped me.

“This is part of my promise during my campaign to have constant engagement with my constituents to know their needs.

“I have always been doing this before being elected as a member of the state house of assembly, this has just increased my capacity to do more.

“This token we have given them will also go a long way as they celebrate during the Eid festivities,” she said.

Mr Tijani  Olusi, Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government, lauded the lawmaker’s efforts of giving back to the community, encouraging her to do more.

“Lagos Island is her birthplace and she is giving back to the community that nurtured her. Now being elected as a public officer, I will encourage her to do more.

“The people of Lagos Island have continued to benefit from the local government and all political office holders and she is just continuing in the tradition of empowering community members as she has always done,” he said.

He added that the local government had done a lot to improve the lives of members in areas of skills development, health, and infrastructure.

“We have a vocational centre being run by the local government, two health centres, youth centres, and soft loan initiatives for traders, to name but a few,”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs  Sekinat Okeowo thanked Oyekan-Olumegbon saying the items would go a long way in coping with the hike in prices of goods and transportation.
