Over 300 Students Partcipate In 15 Sports At NIS Students’ Week

Andrew Enegbeta, the president of Nigeria Institute of Sports (NIS) students, on Thursday said over 300 students of the institution were participating in about 15 different sports in its ongoing annual Students’ Week.

Enegbeta said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

NAN reports that the Students’ Sports Week is holding at the NIS Sports ground, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Enegbeta said NIS students, both Higher Diploma and Diploma, were participating in activities such as football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, karate, chess, scrabble, among others, in the three-day Students’ Sports Week.

Enegbeta, also a Higher National Diploma student in Sports Management, said the students were eager to showcase what they had been taught.

“The three-day Students’ Week started off yesterday with some activities such as football, swimming and other programmes.

“NIS is a coaching and sports management institute, so we are having a feel of the activities that we administer in a competitive and relaxed environment,” he said.

Enegbeta added that the Students’ Week also enjoyed the support and management of the oldest sports institute in Nigeria.

“We are not having this Students’ Week alone, we also have the staff of NIS actively involved in the sports programmes. The NIS staff will play against the National Diploma Student in a third place football match.

“We have over 300 students also involved in the Students’ Week, which also includes the Special Students as well.

“We are exploring all avenues to keep the bond of friendship in the school and also appreciate God for leading us thus far,” he said.

The Vice President of the NIS Students, Mr Gbenga Omoyemi, told NAN that the Students’ Week had been eventful with so many activities lined up.

“We are counting down to our graduation ceremony, which is just about 23 days, so this Students’ Week is a highpoint of events for the students.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to pass through this prestigious NIS to sharpen my skills through theoretical and practical lessons.

“The onus is on us to go back to our respective establishments and make the difference because we have students from all aspects of sports here in the institution,” he said.
