2023 Havana Games: Organisers Rally Healthcare Workers For Fitness

The organisers of the 2023 Havana Games on Thursday called on healthcare workers to engage in sports to achieve fitness and mental balance in spite their busy schedules.

The Organising Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Okereke, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on preparations for the game scheduled to start on Oct. 14.

NAN reports that Havana Games, a multi sport event, in its third edition, is a yearly sports programme designed for health care workers to enable them gain fitness and also interact among themselves in a more relaxed environment.

The 2023 edition of Havana Games will be held at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.

Games expected to be competed for, according to the organisers are, table tennis, football, track events such as 100m and others; board games such as ludo, scrabble, monopoly, among others.

All the games are in two categories, male and female.

Mr Okereke said the games had in the first two editions helped healthcare workers achieve mental balance by giving them a platform to harness their sporting abilities away from their busy schedules.

“The programme has a target which is to bring together the healthcare workers to engage in sporting activities.

“This set of people are always busy helping others get better by caring for them, so much that they are left behind to care for.

“This programme is designed to create time for the workers to be able to engage in health fitness activities, to promote physical wellness, to promote bonding and relieve stress.

“We also seek to enhance emotional wellbeing as well as creating awareness because the workers in the sector are very busy almost everytime at work,” he said.

Okereke added: “We want the healthcare workers to come out in a more relaxed environment through sport.

“We appreciate the importance of sports to fitness and that is the main reason for this programme, we want to look out for those looking out for us.”
