Naija Queen of Pop Ashny Breaks New Ground with Musical Short Film The Overcomer and Empowering ‘Femalepreneur’ Album
Lagos, Nigeria — Following a successful and consistent run in 2025, Nigerian singer and songwriter Ashny, popularly known as the Naija Queen of Pop, has achieved a notable milestone with the release of her musical short film The Overcomer, described as a first-of-its-kind project by a Nigerian female artiste.
The film chronicles Ashny’s journey through the struggles of rising to stardom, uniquely weaving her music into the storytelling process. Featuring a cast of respected industry figures, the production includes legendary vocalist Yinka Davies as Ashny’s mother, comedian and entertainment impresario Koffi Tha Guru as her manager, and iconic producer Puffy T in the role of a loan shark. Other appearances include Georgewill Jonathan and comedians Openteeth, Makati and Dynamic V. The film presents an authentic portrayal of the modern Nigerian music industry and the experiences of emerging talents.
In addition to the film release, Ashny unveiled her latest album Femalepreneur on December 14, 2025, at a high-profile event held at Alliance Française Mike Adenuga Centre, Ikoyi. The launch attracted major figures in the entertainment industry, including Charlie Boy, the Ibru Sisters, Chigul, Mandy and Yinka Davies, alongside performances by Queen Salawa Abeni, Boomerang, Yellowgirl, Kidda and Mooh.
The 17-track album, her tenth musical project, blends melody, poetry and socially conscious themes while addressing issues such as love, unity, empowerment and the girl child from a female perspective. Each track explores diverse narratives and genres, ranging from highlife and soul to dancehall, amapiano and spoken word. Collaborations with established artists and emerging talents highlight Ashny’s commitment to bridging generations and promoting creative inclusivity.
Tracks such as Strong Woman, Who Be Man?, Kadara, and Men Are Dogs explore gender dynamics and societal expectations, while upbeat songs like Shekere, Fish and Lapato bring vibrant Afrocentric energy. Spoken-word interludes and dramatic storytelling further enrich the album’s thematic depth.
Beyond music, Ashny continues to expand her creative brand, recently launching the AURA by Ashny perfume line. She is also reportedly working on a new EP titled P.O.M.E and an upcoming collaborative album SHemancipation, described as a pioneering female collaboration project in Nigeria.
Ashny’s brand is produced and managed by Koffi Tha Guru on behalf of Fun Media LLC, as the artiste continues to position herself as a multifaceted force in Nigeria’s entertainment and creative industries.
