The pioneers of Ilamoye Junior Grammar School, Okota, Lagos State have pledged to renovate classrooms, provide a computer laboratory as well as a lawnmower to provide a conducive environment for learning.

The 1985 set who celebrated their reunion on Saturday after 40 years of graduation at the school premises with students said that investing in education would help produce quality members of the society.

The Chairman of the organising committee of the alumni reunion, Rear Adm. Joseph Akpan said that they were grateful to their alma mater for making them into what they were today.

Akpan said that as a way to show their appreciation the 1985 alumni decided to hold a reunion party in the school, encourage students to take their studies seriously and give back to the school through the pledges made.

"We will get back as soon as possible with the modalities of how we will execute these projects in the school for improved learning," the admiral said.

The principal of the school, Mrs Olufunmilayo Oyelade said that it was a delight to have them return to the very grounds where their dreams were nurtured and where their journey into adulthood began.

Oyelade said that their presence was a testament to their love for the school and their commitment to keeping its spirit alive.

"Many years have passed since you walked these corridors, yet Ilamoye continues to stand tall—growing, evolving, and striving to uphold the values that shaped you.

"We celebrate your achievements, your contributions to society, and the good examples you continue to set for our current students. You are the pride of this institution," the principal said.

Mr Peter Chikwe, one of the teachers of the 1985 set, said that he was elated with the way most of his students had turned out successfully, giving glory to God for their lives.

Chikwe who taught account, economics and business studies said that one of his key beliefs to imparting knowledge was through discipline emphasising that it was the best way to shape a child.

"Even the Bible says spare the rod and spoil a child so I am happy that I didn't spare the rod as their teacher because it has helped shape them into successful men and women they are," Chikwe said.

Mr Olabisi Akinola, the 1985 Headboy urged the students to take their studies seriously, remain focused and the sky would be their limit.

Mrs Olusolah Akinbulu, Director of Nursing, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba advised students to stay away from hard drugs and avoid joining bad gangs.

Akinbulu said that the neuropsychiatric hospital was full of patients who had run crazy from drug and substance abuse.

"So, please, shun drug abuse so that you can become successful, well balanced adults in future," she said.

ReelzzNewzz24 reports that awards and prizes were given to students who came first, second and third.

They also donated five note books to all the students in the school.
