Nigerian Navy arrests three stowaways aboard tanker vessel Front Altiers


Lagos, Dec.29, 2023 (NAN) The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT's patrol team has apprehended three stowaways attempting illegal migration on the Tanker Vessel FRONT Altiers at Lagos, bound for Europe.

The Commander NNS BEECROFT and Maritime Component Commander Operation AWATSE, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga in a statement signed on Friday said that the incident occured on Wednesday, Dec.27.



Oguntuga identified the stowaways as Ebuka Daniel, 29, Enugu State, Samuel Abraham, 32, Edo and Christian Happy 32, Delta State.

"They were discovered to have boarded with the assistance of fishermen for a fee of twenty thousand naira and five thousand naira respectively.

"Acting on reliable intelligence, the patrol team meticulously extracted the stowaways concealed in the rudder compartment of the vessel, preventing them from exposure to life-threatening situations during the long voyage.

"The swift and commendable efforts of the patrol team ensured the timely intervention, avoiding potential security threats associated with unauthorised access," the commander said.



Oguntuga said that the stowaways had been handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for necessary action.



He said that the incident, highlighted the crucial role of the Nigerian Navy under the leadership of Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) unwavering dedication in upholding the rule of law.
