Navy confiscates boat with over 800 jerricans of PMS



Lagos, Jan.20, 2024. The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has confiscated over 800 Jerricans of 30 liters suspected Premium Motor Spirit  (PMS) close to the boundary between Nigeria and Benin Republic 80 nautical miles seaward.

The ships Commander, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga in a statement signed on Friday said that the wooden boat carrying the jerricans of PMS's was arrested on Friday.

"Under the ongoing Operation WATER GUARD, NNS BEECROFT in collaboration with the Forward Operating Base Badagry aided by seamless integration of credible human intelligence made the arrest possible.

"Also, the effective utilisation of the Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, the Falcon Eye Alignment made this maritime feat achievable," he said.



Oguntuga maintained that the Navy would continue to sustain dominance of the maritime space leveraging technology and other means to curb illegalities within the countrys maritime domain.

"I appeal to Nigerians not to relent at providing credible information necessary to ensure the maritime environment is safe for legitimate businesses to thrive," he said.



Oguntuga said that the successful arrest aligned with key priorities of the strategic directives of Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS)

He said that these directives were geared towards the Navy's unwavering commitment to curbing crime and criminality within the nations maritime environment for economic prosperity of our dear nation.
