2024 Inter Command competition: CNS expects records to be broken




Lagos, April 23, 2024 The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla on Monday said that he expected several records to be broken as he flagged off the 2024 Inter Command competition in Lagos.

According to Ogalla, a total of 560 Nigerian Navy personnel, representing seven commands would compete in three events, which are: Football, Volleyball and Tug of War.

Reelzznewzz24 reports that the competition would hold from April 22 to April 24 at the Nigerian Navy Sports Complex, Satellite Town, Ojo.

The CNS was represented by the Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters, Rear Adm. Kenneth Ezete.

The seven participating Commands are Naval Headquarters, Western Naval Command, Eastern Naval Command, Central Naval Command, Naval Training Command, Logistics Command and Naval Doctrine Command. 



Ogalla said that the main purpose of the competition was to enhance both the physical and mental fitness level of Nigerian Navy personnel as well as to encourage esprit-de-corps.

"Another objective is to identify and select talents that will represent the Nigerian Navy in the forthcoming Armed Forces Games scheduled for June 2024.

"I urge you all to do your best towards being selected to represent the Nigerian Navy. 

"I am expecting several records to be broken and new benchmarks for sporting excellence in the Nigerian Navy to be set at this competition," he said.



The CNS said that the discovery of new talents would ensure that the Navy, continued to serve as a feeder of championships in the Armed Forces, national and international sporting meets.

"In this regard, I implore our athletes to push to the limits of their abilities as sports men and women and create indelible moments that will ensure the success of the competition.

"Notwithstanding, the ethos of sportsmanship, discipline and integrity must be maintained at all levels of the competition to promote bonding and togetherness. 

"I also want the officials to exhibit high standard and principles involved in officiating standard sporting events," he said.

Ogalla said the sporting events were not a do or die affair, as the objective was to select the best hands for the Nigerian Navy.

"We urge you to be professional in your callings and responsibilities.

Kindly ensure that you create a peaceful environment for a successful event," he said.

The CNS thanked all the commands and commended them for making efforts in preparing their participants to participate in this all important sports.

"This occasion will enable you determine the level of fitness of the personnel under your command.

"I encourage you to create more opportunities for sporting activities even after this event.

"As we are all aware that developing a virile sporting environment is as good as developing a healthy fighting force for the Nigerian Navy," he said.

Ogalla said that this occasion would continue to remind us of the efforts the Nigerian Navy was making towards investing in sports.

"Presently, the Nigerian Navy has one of the best volleyball team known as ‘The CNS Spikers,’ who are currently the champions of the Nigerian Volleyball League.

"This is definitely not a small feat attained by the Nigerian Navy.

"Therefore, I wish all the players and the commands an injury free exercise as they prepare to compete amongst themselves," the CNS said.
