LASUED VC Advocates Increased Tree Tlanning To Address Global Warming

  The Vice- Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Otto/Ijanikin, Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, has advocated increased tree planting  to address global warming. Lafiaji-Okuneye said that tree planting would help to build resilience to climate change. She made the assertion at the 2024 Lagos State Annual Tree Planting Campaign held at the university’s  main campus,  on  Sunday in Lagos.  Lagos to hold pan-African carnival, ‘Afropolis’, to boost tourism July 11, 2024 The Lagos State Government is set to hold the maiden edition of a pan-African carnival, ‘Afropolis’, for the promotion of black cultural heritage, creativity and innovation. Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, who disclosed this during a Town Hall meeting in Lagos, said the Ministry was collaborating with Qudus Onikeku, a multimodal international artiste. She said the goal of Afropolis, slated for Oct. 26 to Nov. 3, was to foster collaboration, inspire innovation, celebrate the diverse traditions and creativity of Africa as well as boost tourism. Benson-Awoyinka said the carnival was a platform for African creatives to come together to showcase their talents, exchange ideas and collaborate on groundbreaking projects as well as create truly unique things.  Ayra Starr, Tems emerge most streamed Nigerian artistes in 2024 first half Spotify, a global music streaming platform, has announced Nigerian music sensations, Ayra Starr and Tems, as the most streamed Nigerian artistes globally. Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music, Sub- Saharan Africa, announced this in Lagos on Wednesday. Okumu said that the top 30 artistes who had gained the biggest global numbers were revealed in Spotify’s music global impact list for 2024. She said that Rauw Alexandro and Ayra Starr’s Santa came top on the list, and Ayra Starr’s Comma emerged second while Tem’s Love Me Jeje, came third.  Creative designers guild decries members’ nonchalant attitude to health insurance Lagos July 6, 2024  The Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN) on Saturday decried the nonchalant attitude of its members toward the health insurance scheme package provided for them. Its National President, Mrs Joy Osawaru-Akinyemi, said this in an interview with ReelzzNewzz24 in Lagos. ReelzzNewzz24 reports that CDGN comprises of production designers, makeup artists, costume designers and property managers. According to Osawaru-Akinyemi, the guild members are not indicating interest in the scheme in spite being an affordable package. ASUU-LASUED Awards Scholarships To 6 Indigent Dtudents

  The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University of Education (ASUU-LASUED) Chapter, has awarded scholarships to six indigent students of the institution. The national union awarded N200,000, each, to two students – Oluwakemisola Ajetunmobi from  Physics Department and Iseoluwa Amusan from Primary Education Department. While, ASUU-LASUED branch gave the remaining four students N100,000 each. The beneficiaries are Opeyemi Oyetakin from  Mathematics Department, Abidemi Samuel, Physics Department; Ayishat Gbolahan, Entrepreneurship Department; and Olamide Abiola, Mathematics Department. The Chairman of ASUU-LASUED, Mr Akolade Lapite, made this known in a statement on Friday. Lapite said that the scholarships were not merely financial aids but investments in  future leaders.  FTAN holds 27th AGM July 30, pledges orderliness in tourism sector July 3, 2024 The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) on Tuesday expressed readiness to ensure orderliness in the Nigerian tourism industry. Alhaji Aliyu Badaki, first Deputy President of FTAN, revealed this during a virtual media briefing on the association’s forthcoming 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM), slated for July 30, in Abuja. Badaki, also the chairman, planning committee for the AGM, said the programme had been designed to sensitise tourism practitioners and government on their roles in upscaling the industry and ensuring orderliness.   A Professor of Education, Oluwole Akeredolu, says  welfare of Nigeria academics needs to be taken more seriously by governments and other stakeholders to facilitate education development.   The Lagos State University team, comprising members of the Student Union Government (SUG) and Campus Journalists, participated in a Two-Day workshop organised by Alliance for Africa. The workshop aimed to develop a strategic plan for sexual harassment and gender policy in Nigerian institutions. The event, held at Bolton White Hotels and Apartment, on  Friday, 28th July 2024, brought together twelve Nigerian universities' SUG representatives and their campus journalists.  The Executive Director of Alliances for Africa, Iheoma Obibi, welcomed the participants during her opening address. She commended them for their presence and encouraged them to share their insights and experiences regarding the prevalence and nature of sexual harassment within their institutions.
