ASUU-LASUED Awards Scholarships To 6 Indigent Dtudents

 


The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Lagos State University of Education (ASUU-LASUED) Chapter, has awarded scholarships to six indigent students of the institution.

The national union awarded N200,000, each, to two students – Oluwakemisola Ajetunmobi from  Physics Department and Iseoluwa Amusan from Primary Education Department.

While, ASUU-LASUED branch gave the remaining four students N100,000 each.

The beneficiaries are Opeyemi Oyetakin from  Mathematics Department, Abidemi Samuel, Physics Department; Ayishat Gbolahan, Entrepreneurship Department; and Olamide Abiola, Mathematics Department.

The Chairman of ASUU-LASUED, Mr Akolade Lapite, made this known in a statement on Friday.

Lapite said that the scholarships were not merely financial aids but investments in  future leaders.

He said that it was aimed at ensuring that talents  and potential were nurtured regardless of socio-economic backgrounds.

“It is with great pride and a sense of accomplishment that we stand here to witness the fruition of our collective efforts in supporting education and fostering academic excellence.

“In 2018, the ASUU initiative for scholarships was born in the northern part of Nigeria, driven by our unwavering commitment to empower and uplift deserving students who face financial hardships.

“Today, this initiative has spread its wings to LASUED, where we continue to uphold the principles of equity and access to education for all,” he said.

Lapite added that the scholarships were funded funded through the union’s  internally-generated dues.

“This exemplifies our unity and dedication towards the academic success of our students, embodying the spirit of selflessness and solidarity that defines our union.

“As we reflect on this momentous occasion, let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting quality education and advocating the welfare of both students and academic staff.

“The scholarships awarded today are a testament to the transformative power of education and the pivotal role that ASUU plays in shaping the future of our society,” he said.

Lapite congratulated the recipients for their dedication and perseverance.

“We are proud to support you in your academic journey.

“May you continue to excel and inspire others with your achievements.

“I will like to express my sincere appreciation to all members of our union whose tireless efforts and contributions have made today possible.

“Let us continue to work together towards a brighter and more inclusive future for education in Nigeria,” he added.
