TotalEnergies donates bins, engages Lagos schools in cleanup
As part of its corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability efforts, TotalEnergies distributed waste bins to four Lagos schools and engaged students in a clean-up exercise.
The General Manager of Country Services at TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, Mrs Adesuwa Adewole, disclosed this while speaking to journalists after the donation.
The beneficiary schools were Kuramo Junior and Senior Secondary School, as well as Victoria Island Junior and Secondary School.
The initiative, with the theme ‘Green Initiative on Climate and Environmental Preservation’, was carried out in partnership with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation.
“TotalEnergies strongly supports the Sustainable Development Goals. In all we do, we remain conscious of the need to sustain our environment.
“The only way to achieve this is by working with the environment, people, and society wherever we operate.
“This is just one of many initiatives we have implemented over the years to further this cause,” Adewole said.
She noted that over 200 students would benefit from the programme, adding that the goal was to educate them on environmental responsibility.
“For example, in December, we organised a similar initiative, with about 300 students participating. Today, we have 200 students involved.
“We want to spread awareness that everyone has a role in creating a sustainable global environment.
“We recognise that children are the future. Seeing them engage, learn, and embrace this initiative is very encouraging,” she said.
She expressed delight that many students already understood their role in ensuring a sustainable environment for the future.
Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, Dr Samba Seye, described the initiative as part of the company’s efforts to promote recycling awareness.
“This highlights the importance of recycling and its environmental benefits.
“Today, we are pleased to expand this initiative by donating recycling bins to four additional schools and organising another clean-up challenge.
“TotalEnergies encourages communities to adopt environmentally sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner world.
“Through activities like these, we instil environmental consciousness and responsibility,” he noted.
The Principal of Victoria Island Secondary School, Mrs Alimi Tomilola, thanked TotalEnergies for the gesture.
She assured that students would continue to keep their environment clean and appealed for similar support from other corporate organisations. (NAN)
