Music is a tool that must be used appropriately- Arlex

A budding Artiste, Alexander Ukem, popularly known "Arlex skillz" said on Friday that music was a tool that must be used appropriately to impact people's lives.

He said that music could be used to influenced people positively with good lyrical and quality content.

Arlex told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview, in Lagos.

He said that his genre of music which is afrobeat and rhythm and blues (RnB)  is not complex but comes with great messages.

He added that his new single is a typical example that music should be used to pass messages.

"My musical preferences are not complex. It is just based on good lyrics, quality content and the message the music is passing across because I believe music is a tool and must be used appropriately.

"I have a new single titled ‘kool temper’. It is trying to preach patience, calmness and not having to worry so much amidst life issues and daily challenges.

"So the song is just telling you to stay calm. It is what we witness everyday life," he said.

Arlex, however, said that he intends to stand out with his vocal prowess and also utilise his online visibility to promote his music and effectively reach out to his fans.

He said he had to combine his music career with schooling and now working with award winning producers to create quality contents.

"The music industry is indeed competitive. I intend to stand out with my music dexterity, vocal prowess and also increase my online presence so as to reach out to more people and work on having a huge fan base.

"I have had to mix grooming my career with school and so far I have released a cover, two singles and two videos within the years.

"I am now taking a bigger step with this single by working with Phantom Beats as the producer of the song.

"He was the producer of the year in the Sound City MVP Awards in 2019 so for me basically it is a new milestone." he said.

He is a Nigerian from Akwa Ibom State. He is a graduate of Nigerian Institute of journalism (NIJ) and grew up in Ebute-Metta West in Lagos.

He attended Mount Carmel Nursery and Primary School and Glory International College.

He started his musical career in 2015.

  1. Music is indeed a tool that should be used to influence it's listeners/audience in a positive way. Life comes with challenges, pressure and anxiety, the only way we can overcome them is to be patient, work and trust in God. Keep up the good work Arlexskillz.
