Ekweremadu: Immigration Confirms Details On Organ Donor's Passport

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on Sunday, confirmed the aunthenticity of the passport of Mr David Nwamini, who was alleged to have been trafficked to the UK for organ harvest by former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The Comptroller General (CG) NIS, Mr Isa Jere made this confirmation to journalists in a Zoom meeting.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that information peddled on the social media alleged that Nwamini, a minor, 15, was trafficked by Ike and his wife, Beatrice, to transplant his (Nwamini) kidney into their daughter, Sonia.

Jere said that the service had investigated the matter and findings reveal that all information concerning Nwamini passed through appropriate sources before it was documented on his passport.

"Mr Nwamini was captured on Nov. 2, 2021 at Gwagwalada Office, FCT where his Date Of Birth read Oct. 12, 2000, making him a 21 years old man.

"He was validly issued a passport because the documents presented were inline with the requirements needed before a passport is issued," he said.

The CG said that the information on the passport could be confirmed from other agencies such as National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) National Population Commission (NPC) and the Ebonyi State Government.

"Passport is the product of all these documents so you cannot leave out other agencies in this allegation of falsification of passport being circulated by the social media.

"Though, NIS has the information but you can also consult with other agencies to ascertain the genuineness of the details on the passport," Jere said.

He said that there had to be a regulation of the Nigerian social media in order to prevent the spread of false news which misleads the public.

"The service hereby appeals to the general public to desist from spreading such utternaces because they are possible of denting the image of the service," Jere said.

The CG also said that neither the British High Commission or Senate representative had contacted the NIS regarding the matter.
