PCN Lagos Command Unveils Logo, Fund Fair to celebrate 24th Anniversary

The Lagos Command of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) on Wednesday unveiled new logo and Fund Fair card to mark the celebration of its 24th anniversary.

NAN reports that the launch of the Fund Fair Card and the new logo at the Command’s Headquarters, Egbe Road, Jakande Bus-Stop was themed "2023 General Elections, The Roles Of Youth In Security And Peace Building In Communities."

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  The Assistant National Commandant, Oerations, Akeem Badmus said the new logo depicts the objective of the PCN.

"The logo has a torch with a red flame, an open book. The torch symbolizes national unity and integration, the red flame stands for burning desire for academic excellence by the Nigerian youth, the open book depicts educational institutions as the primary focus.

"The red flame depicts the national nations fertile landmark and the law of fortification which places high premium on the youths.

"In terms of the colors green connotes reorientation as basics for character rejuvenation of the citizens and of cause majorly the youths while the yellow and red represent national integration and street discipline respectively." he said.

The PCN Lagos State Commandant, Patriot Kuforiji Williams also said that the launch of the Fund Fair Card and the new Logo in Lagos was necessary as it was recently unveiled at the National Headquarters by the National Commandant, Amb. Dickson Akoh.

"This brief but very significant occasion as has been the case in the past is our own traditional ways to Kickstart the series of activities lined up to commemorate the 2022 anniversary. 

"Looking back, I am moved to acknowledge here that inspire of the institutional and fundamental challenges, PCN has recorded monumental achievements. 

"The 24th anniversary Logo/Fund Fair Card agenda is a transformative platform. For the implementation of the core mandate of the organisation, we will need much more cross-disciplinary research to guide our decision making process.

"I am deeply inspired by this initiative not only because of the General election but the roles of youth in security and peace building in communities.

"PCN envisions a Nigeria where all young people are inspired and equipped to realise their desired future. Our mission is to connect young people with opportunities to transform their lives, create a better and peaceful society for all." he said.

The Commandant added that more of vision of such is needed as PCN, Lagos State Command had decided to bring everyone together to speak with one voice ahead of the 2023 General Elections. 

Pat. Kuforiji Williams also preached synergy among members adding that there is need to break silos in academia and explore ways to work across discipline, with policy makers to understand what is needed to change mindset and think horizontally. 

Sir Paul Guobadia who also spoke at the event said he wondered why PCN had not been adopted for so long with all its responsibility of maintaining peace in the society. 

"PCN is the defender of the children. They can manage them to be orderly and responsible in the society. I don't think there will be issues of moral decadence if PCN is well utilised.

"I pray PCN is forever recognized in Nigeria. We need PCN so much now. They are needed in every angle where peace, rule of law, reconciliation and orderliness is desired. 

"PCN should visit schools and enlighten children on how to do it right. For a peaceful election, we also need PCN. Only and orderly society can grow." he said.

The Chairman of the event, Mr Oluniyi Adebamiji also said that he is identifying with the PCN based on their objectives which is to connect young people with the opportunity to transform their lives for good.

Mr Adebamiji added that PCN already has the numbers and that they should look inward at how their capacity can be utilised for their own benefits and that of the society. 

"We have the highest demography of youths in Nigeria but we don't manage it well. This is where PCN comes in. There are lots of expectations for the PCN and I ll advise them to unite.

"Be an independent thinker, believe in the process and mission of PCN, be a role model to emulate and be involved in policy making." he said.

The Chairman also urged the PCN Lagos Command to make themselves more visible and also expand their scope by partnering with the private sector.

The keynote speaker, Amb Roy Okhidievbie, a security expert emphasised the importance of being security conscious, saying that it is important a person generates security protection triangle from the moment he wakes up.

"Always understand that security is key and perpetrators are infiltrators. Security of a place, a nation is usually infiltrated through tribe or religion sentiments.

"We don't bother to do adequate profiling, we just quickly admit." He said. 

Mr Okhidievbie further enjoined members of PCN to synergise with sister agencies and also unite adding that their collaboration is major means of survival. 

"Collaboration is is your only survival anywhere you find dilapidation. As i speak, its possible the Lagos Command of PCN have factions which is not supposed to be.

"The work before PCN is not a small one. You should look amongst yourself and maintain a magnetic relationship with maximum consistency. If you don't know, anybody in uniform is closer than your bloodline." he said.

The expert also urged members of PCN to be of good examples. He told them to shun ethical compromise and drugs so as to attract people of impeccable character to the PCN.
