Block Moulders Association Task Sanwo-Olu On Inclusion In Lagos State Projects

 


The National Association of Block Moulders of Nigeria (NABMAN) on Tuesday urged Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to engage members of the association in state owned projects.

Mr Adeboye Asela, the Chairman, Igbe-Elepe Unit, made the apeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the completion of eight weeks intensive training on block moulding in Ikorodu, Lagos.

He said their participation would reduce building collapse to the bearest minimum.

"Building collapse have been a major challenges in the country especially in Lagos State as a result of bad blocks produced by quarcks.

"Our members have gone through intensive training and international best practices on how to mould good blocks. 

"What we are expecting now is for Lagos state government to engage us in the area of blocks in any state projects to showcase experience learnt from the training," he said  

According to him, a lot of their members initially mould their blocks in such a way that was not in tandom with international best practices and the training made us to realised that the blocks may not be able to stand test of time.

He urged members to key into the new techniques for moulding blocks and encourage others who were players in the industry to do same in order to avert perennial building collapse in the state and in Nigeria.

He commended Lagos State government under the able leadership of gov. Sanwo-olu for considering artisan in capacity building scheme and the management staff of the school for their leadership roles during the training.

"We appreciate the governor for considering artisans in the ongoing  capacity building scheme in Lagos State.

"We also commended our lecturers  Mr Bola Ajayi, Coordinator, Lagos State Ministry of wealth creation, Mr Ajifowoke and Mr Adeyinka Adebanjo,  for their robust cooperation and outstanding performance during the training.

"Now we understand that bad blocks is a major cause to building collapse.

"But now, they have taught us new techniques and this will go a long to avert building collapse and also safe lives," he said.

NAN reports that  Lagos State Ministry of wealth and employment in collaboration with Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education board (LASTVEB) recently conducted capacity building scheme for tradesmen and artisan. 

At the scheme, artisans were trained in different vocational skills such as Computer, Entrepreneurship, Welding, ICT and block moulding among others.
