Nigerian Air Force Closes 2022 With Display Of Cultural Activities

The Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) ended the year 2022 by celebrating it's Base Socio-cultural Activities (BASA) which displayed various cultures and games in celebrating their personnel for their dedication to duty.

The Special Guest Of Honour, the Elewu of Ewu Land, Oba (King) Shakirudeen Kuti said that our culture is our rich heritage and identity as a people which must be preserved and celebrated.

Kuti said this at the 2022 BASA which held on Friday at the ATO field, Logistics Command, Ikeja, Lagos.

The traditional ruler was represented by the Aro of Ewu Land, Chief Samsondeen Akinyemi.

BASA is an age long social event of the military dating back to the 2nd World war, meant to foster comradeship among the officers and men.

It is an event purposefully designed to bringing families of personnel together with a view to bridging the gap between their contemporaries from there various geopolitical zones.

Kuti said that the event, among other things would improve the cordial relationship existing between the Nigerian Air Force and their host communities.

"I am delighted with the various performances witnessed this afternoon which has greatly showcased our rich cultural heritage from our diverse regions.

"I therefore commend the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command and indeed the entire Base community for sustaining this event for personnel and our wards," the traditional ruler said.

He appreciated the gallant personnel of the Nigerian Air Force for their constant sacrifices in safeguarding our dear country.

"We will continue to support and pray for the Military and their leaders as we hope for a peaceful Nigeria.

"I therefore ask the military authorities to please ensure that this type of event remain a yearly activity as its importance cannot be over emphasised," Kuti said.

Also, the Commander 651 Base Services Group, AVM Adekunle Martin's said that the event was purposefully designed to bring families of personnel together with a view to bridging the gap between their contemporaries from there various geopolitical zones. 

"It is in light of the above that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, through his visionary leadership approved year 2022 BASA celebration.

"This among other things will ensure unity among families of NAF personnel residing in Lagos and impact good cultural value to their children.

"It will also help in discovering young talents among the barrack youths," the commander said.

Martins thanked adjoining communities and their leaders for creating an enabling environment for the military to operate and carry out it's constitutional mandate.

"We will continue to work with other security agencies in the state to ensure peace and harmony strive for our people to function effectively," the AVM said. 

Activities that graced the celebration include: cultural displays of different states, sack races, tug of war, football match, dancing among other programmes.
