General Assures Of Peaceful Elections Through Collaboration With Sister Security Agencies

The Corp Commander Signals Maj.-Gen. Garba Abdullahi has said that the military would continue to make sacrifices and promote friendly engagements with other security agencies to ensure peace and security throughout the election period.

Garba who was the Special Guest of Honour said this at the 2022 West African Social Activities (WASA) which held on Saturday at the Nigerian Army Cantonment Epe on Saturday.

The social activity was being jointly hosted by NAOS, 25 SER, and 81 BOD. 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that WASA is an occasion to mark the end of the year’s training activities and to usher in activities for the next year.

It is designed to enable officers, soldiers, their families and civilian friends particularly the host community to interact and make merry in a conducive atmosphere.

It also promotes comradeships, deepens espirit de corps and strengthens unity among personnel while displaying various cultural groups reflecting the cultural diversity across the country. 

Garba said that the challenges confronting our nation such as insurgency, terrorism, kidnapping and ethnic agitation have placed high demand on army formations to professionally tackle the issues affecting our national security.

"We give glory to God that in spite these challenges, the entire task of the Nigerian Army formations was successfully executed in the year 2022.

"The achievements recorded by the NAOS, 25 SER and 81 BOD were attributed to the dedication and diligence by personnel, instructors and students to carry out responsibilities," he said.

The commander said that the 2023 general election which was vital in the history of our was nation fast approaching therefore urged people of goodwill to contribute their quota for the restoration of sustainable peace and security in our country.

He said that troops’ welfare and infrastructural development within Nigerian Army Cantonment Epe had received priority attention by the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya.

"Prominent among the aforementioned include; the construction of additional hostels and residential accommodations, construction of 2 x student officers and 2 x soldiers dormitories.

"Also, the COAS embarked on the construction of a maternity center at Ajegunle community and provision of full equipped Toyota Hiace Ambulance to ensure cordial civil-military cooperation in Epe.

"The maternity  will soon be completed and subsequently handed over to the community with the Ambulance," Garba said.

The commander said that the effort was part of the COAS quick impact project to promote cordial relationship with host communities. 

"In this regard, we are grateful to the COAS for approving the relocation of the Nigerian Army Ordnance School to Epe, construction of additional infrastructures and provision of maternity with Ambulance for the people of Epe.

"All these projects are aimed at improving welfare and the much needed public support for personnel to perform optimally in their duties for the attainment of the COAS Vision for Nigerian Army.

"The vision is : “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish assigned Missions within a Joint environment in defence of Nigeria”," he said.

Garba, therefore charged troops to rededicate themselves to the service to the country, demonstrate professionalism, sacrifice and greater commitment to duty.
