Maj.-Gen. Gbemiga Adesina, Commander, Corps of Signals, Nigerian Army has said that effective communications remained critical and pivotal in accomplishing the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja's command philosophy.

Adesina said this at the Corps Signals 2023 Annual Conference with the theme: "Repositioning Nigerian Army Signals Towards Provision of Effective and Efficient Communications Support to the Nigerian Army within a Joint Environment."

The event held on Wednesday at the Nigerian Army Signals, Arakan Barracks, Apapa Lagos.

According to Adesina, the COAS philosophy is to transform the Nigerian Army into a well trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment.

"This conference is an opportunity for us to pool our collective wisdom, experiences, and insights as well as brainstorm to address the pressing communications challenges facing the Corps in general.

"In acknowledging these challenges, we must recognise that it is our duty to come up with innovative and novel ideas towards proffering workable solutions to all identified challenges.

"Today marks a crucial moment to deliberate on repositioning our Corps towards providing effective and efficient communications support to the Nigerian Army within a joint environment," he said.

The commander added that the conference would also help prepare the Nigerian Army Signals for the forth COAS Annual Conference scheduled to take place in Maiduguri, Borno later in December.

He said that since he assumed office in July, he formulated his mission statement to serve as a guiding beacon to all Nigerian Army Signals formations and units across the country.

"The mission statement focuses on enhancing the capacity and capability of the Nigerian Army Signals in tandem with modern technological advancements.

"The objective is to provide effective, secure and robust communications support to the Nigerian Army both in peace and during conflict situations.

"Furthermore, it focuses on achieving seamless communications support to, within and among sub-units, units and formations in the Nigerian Army," he said.

Adesina urged commanders and personnel to remain focused, vigilant and dedicated to improveming their roles as communicators at all levels.

He reiterated the importance of providing basic communications equipment and necessary infrastructure to facilitate conducive working environment towards optimising the output and performance of personnel.

Adesina also extended his sincere appreciation to the COAS for his continuous support to the Signals Corps.

"Lagbaja's unflinching commitment to providing the necessary resources in men, material and equipment has been instrumental in repositioning the Signals Corps to performing its roles and responsibilities effectively, efficiently and creditably.

"Therefore, we must remain resolute in our efforts to reposition the Corps towards providing seamless and robust communications support to the Nigerian Army in all ramifications," he said.
