The Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Ikeja, Lagos State on Saturday conducted two lectures on how veterans can continue to take care of their health and remain relevant to the society even after retirement.

Over 50 retired NAF personnel attended the NAF Medical Outreach which started on Friday and ended on Saturday.

The outreach started on Friday and ended on Saturday, with medical outreaches in the three oldest NAF Commands as directed by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar.

The commands are: NAF Logistics Command, Lagos, NAF Training Command, Kaduna and NAF War College, Makurdi.

The Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Yaro Abdullahi represented the CAS at the medical outreach which held in Lagos.

Abdullahi said that the outreach which was the first of its kind and an initiative of the CAS aimed to appreciate the veterans for their services to the nation.

He said that the last day of the outreach witnessed events such as health support talks, lectures and interactive sessions lined up for the veterans.

"The essence is to further boost the morale of our dear veterans by giving them a sense of belonging while also serving as a forum to discuss and resolve observed challenges that are perculiar to retirees’ welfare," the AOC said.

Abdullahi said that the outreach was also a buildup to the upcoming Armed Forces Remembrance Day which holds every January 15.

"This is a day set aside to honour our fallen heroes and their families, for paying the supreme sacrifice for the good of our nation, as well as for the good of our generations yet unborn.

"The outreach is to uplift the spirit of the veterans, while assuring them that their sacrifices and services to the nation remain deeply appreciated and unforgettable.

"It is also designed to encourage serving personnel of the NAF to put in their best in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities," he said.

The AOC said appreciated the CAS for approving Logistics Command as one of the three centres for the conduct of the epoch making event.

"I want to also use this forum to thank him immensely for all his support to the Command, which has enabled us to continue to give logistics support to NAF operational activities.

"I call on serving personnel to keep doing their best to defend the territorial integrity of our great nation, Nigeria and pray and continue to show respect to our lovely veterans," Abdullahi said.

Retired Col. Abila Olayinka, gave a lecture on the challenges and prospects of post service life and the way forward.

Olayinka adviced the veterans to ensure to go for regular check-up and remain healthy because they still had a lot to contribute to the development of the society regardless of their age.
