Corps Signal commander thanks COAS for support to corps achievements in 2023

Lagos, Feb.19, 2024  The Commander Nigerian Army Corps of Signals, Maj.-Gen. Gbemiga Adeshina has thanked the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja for his immense support to the achievements of the corps in the Year 2023.

Adeshina gave this appreciation on Saturday during the Nigerian Army Signals West African Social Activities (WASA) for the Year 2023 which held at the Nigerian Army Signal Barracks parade ground Mile 2, Lagos State.

The COAS was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Usman.

The commander said that the Nigerian Army Signals Training Cycle for the Year 2023 was carefully planned and organised to ensure that personnel continued to enhance their capacity to meticulously carry out the Corps’ mandate.

"The training cycle was designed to build the capacity of officers and men of the Corps of Signals as a pathway for the attainment of the COAS Command Philosophy which is 'To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment’.

"Accordingly, all Nigerian Army Signals training activities for the 2023 were conducted with focus on enhancing the Corps potentials of providing reliable, effective and secure communications support to Nigerian Army operational, administrative and logistic activities in line with the COAS Directive 2023," he said.

Adeshina said that all scheduled training activities were successfully conducted, culminating in the command post and field exercises.

"The exercises were pivotal to increasing troops confidence in the provision of effective communications and ICT support in the current dynamic, volatile, ambiguous and unpredictable operational environment faced by the Nigerian Army. 

"The successes achieved in training has equally manifested in the sterling conduct of our troops in the various theatres of operations.

"It is refreshing to state that reports from the field indicate that Nigerian Army Signals formations and units has displayed commendable initiative, innovations and professional acumen in the discharge of their assigned duties during the 2023 Training Year," he said.

The commander said that the insightful impacts of Signals troops had greatly contributed to the remarkable successes achieved by the Nigerian Army in all its operations.

"I therefore salute the doggedness, courage and professional sagacity of all Signals personnel and congratulate them for their remarkable service to our beloved fatherland.

"I also wish to acknowledge the sacrifices of our colleagues that paid the supreme price and state that we shall never forget their families.

"May the souls of all our departed colleagues rest in peace," he said.

Adeshina added that in the previous year, the Corps of Signals carried out several activities that impacted positively on troops’ welfare.

"The Corps within the previous year ensured that there were improvements in facilities in various offices and residential areas. 

"We completed the second 3 x storey building blocks at Nigerian Army School of Signals, ongoing expansion and remodelling of the Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals Complex and the ongoing construction of a 2-storey building for student officers at Nigerian Army School of Signals.

"These intervention projects has ameliorated the acute accommodation challenge faced by Nigerian Army Signals personnel in Lagos.

"No doubt the ongoing construction projects in Nigerian Army School of Signals will greatly enhance the living conditions and learning efficiency of Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals staff officers and student officers alike," he said.

The commander said that all these projects would not have been possible without the timely intervention and approval of the COAS .

NAN reports that WASA is a yearly social activity organised to celebrate the successful completion of the Corps of Signals training and operational activities for the previous year.

WASA also provides a unique opportunity to showcase the unity and comradeship of service personnel while felicitating with their families and friends in an atmosphere devoid of their usual regimented life.
