New Corps Commander promises to standardise army schools

Lagos, Jan. 24, 2025

The new Corps Commander, Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC), Maj.-Gen. Adebukola Oguntola, has promised to work toward the standardisation of army schools administered by the corps.

Oguntola said this in a statement signed on Thursday by the NAEC spokesperson, Capt. Yemi Sokoya.

Oguntola took over the mantle of leadership of the corps as the 26th Corps Commander Education on Wednesday, from Maj.-Gen. Bello Tsoho.

He said that the corps, as an intellectual arm of the Nigerian Army would pursue research, development and innovation, while collaborating with relevant stakeholders for improved service delivery.

“The equipping of NAEC Training School; the Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology (NAISET), Ilorin, will be pursued vigorously for optimal performance.

“Technology has become the driving force of any modern organisation. Educational services has also become technology driven, hence, technology under my leadership will be given priority in the corps,” Oguntola said.

The commander said that repositioning NAEC would hinge on prioritising human capital development of personnel for optimum performance.

He said it would also re-jig Army Command schools for excellent output and improved provision of specialised services.

He noted that these objectives would be difficult to achieve unless officers and soldiers in the corps consciously imbibe and internalise the culture of critical thinking and creativity.

“Therefore, I charge officers and soldiers of the corps to brace up to the challenge of repositioning the corps to becoming highly professional in the discharge of its core mandates.

“Creative leadership will enable the corps to apply creative ideas toward solving challenges that can emerge while discharging the corps mandates,” the commander said.

Oguntola said that NAEC would also collaborate with relevant stakeholders within the Army, the Armed Forces, civil society, governmental and non-governmental organisations to achieve their mandates.

“Given the increasing complexity of the Army’s operating environment, collaborating with relevant stakeholders will add value to what we are doing towards the discharge of our mandates,” he said.

The commander assured officers and soldiers that their welfare would be given the utmost attention it required to motivate them for enhanced individual role performance.

He called on all NAEC personnel to be upright, disciplined and steadfast in character as these were the hallmark of any military organisation and officer.

“No matter how professional we are, our ability to deliver on our core mandates depends on character and discipline,” the commander said.

Oguntola thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for finding him worthy of the appointment and promised to work tirelessly to justify the confidence reposed in him.

In the same vein, the immediate past Corps Commander, Maj.-Gen. Tsoho, appreciated the COAS for his consistent support toward NAEC and Command Secondary schools.

Tsoho noted that several projects were ongoing in different Command schools across the country, funded by the Nigerian Army.

He enjoined all NAEC officers and soldiers to extend the same level of cooperation to Oguntola, while remaining professional and committed for the corps to remain relevant.
