Nigerian Legion to donate cash, gifts to veterans in Lagos






Lagos, Jan. 24, 2025

The Nigerian Legion, Lagos State chapter, says it will donate cash and gift items to veterans during its maiden ‘State Veterans Day’ celebration in honour of ex-servicemen.

The chairman of the Legion, DCG Akeem Wolimoh, said this in an interview with ReelzzNewzz24 on Thursday in Lagos.

Wolimoh said that the event would hold on Jan.31 at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC).

He said that while still in the spirit of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, veterans in the state would be celebrated and offered free health treatment.

“On that day, we will be celebrating veterans whose birthday falls within January and also presenting electric wheel chairs, and offering free health aid to health challenged veterans and dependents of deceased ex-servicemen.

“There will also be presentation of honorary awards to selected persons both members and non-members,” he said.

The chairman said the event was part of the Legion’s effort toward fulfilling goals of its establishment solemnly to foster comradeship among ex-servicemen.

Wolimoh said that the activities for the day would indeed put smiles on the faces of the ex-servicemen and families of their deceased comrades.

  LASU matriculates 3000 diploma freshmen, warns against gangsterism  The Lagos State University (LASU) on Wednesday warned its students against gangsterism as it matriculated no fewer than 3,000 diploma freshmen. The Director, LASU Consult Ltd., Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, gave this warning during the matriculation of its newly admitted diploma students at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Hall, main campus, Ojo, Lagos. Lack of access to economic resources fuels poverty among women – Don

A Professor of Comparative Study of Religions and Gender Studies, Prof. Adepeju Johnson-Bashua, on Tuesday said lack of access to economic resources contributed  much to poverty among women in Africa. Johnson-Bashua made the assertion while delivering the 105th Inaugural Lecture of Lagos State University (LASU) at the Ojo campus of the university. Johnson-Bashua teaches at the Department of Religious and Peace Studies Facaulty of Arts, LASU. The 105th inaugural lecture was entitled ‘Historicising, Contextualising and Justifying Women’s Aluta Continua in United Religious Spaces’.
