NOWA celebrates togetherness at "Sister and Spice" evening

Lagos, May 3, 2025

Members of the Naval Officers' Wives Association (NOWA) on Monday came together to unwind in celebration of unity and harmony in the association as the Nigerian Navy just concluded its 69th Anniversary celebration.

Mrs Zainab Akpan who represented the NOWA President, Mrs Ijeoma Ogalla said that the event became necessary for the wives of the officers to relax and entertain themselves after a cumbersome Naval anniversary.

The 'Sister and Spice' evening event held at Nigerian Navy Ship QUORRA and featured a movie screening, drama, certificate presentation alongside other social activities that had some notable Nollywood stars in attendance.

Akpan said that one of their members who is an award winning movie producer, as Mrs Memunat Yahaya produced the movie Sister and Spice which was used as the theme for the occasion.

"This program is for women to come together, have fun and feel good with themselves after directly and indirectly contributing to the success of the Naval anniversary celebration.

"Aside from watching movie together, we also have side events attached to it and have invited some well known Nollywood actors and actresses to support our sister in the industry," she said.

Akpan said that Yahaya was able to bring together some needy children in the society, train them and equip them with some skills for future benefits.

"They have all graduated today and we will be granting them their certificate which is one of the height of the programme.

"We will also be empowering them in the little way we can by offering them some grants.

"So, sister and spice is about putting our best together as well as our beauty to crown it up," she said.

Akpan said that one of her favourite cliché was "don't leave a sister behind" because the association could only be as strong as it's weakest link.

"If a sister is down, whether you like it or not, we are all down so, the best way we can continue to progress is to help that sister up and keep moving.

"Irrespective of our pace of movement, we all will get there one day," she said.

Akpan on behalf of Ogalla thanked everyone who graced the occasion with their presence saying that NOWA was an association that was there to strengthen her members, an officer's wife; a woman, and make her into that lioness she is born to be.
