Africa Illustrious Awards Marks Five Years of Honouring African Icons

The organisers of the Africa Illustrious Awards have called for greater recognition of individuals and organisations driving positive change across the continent, as the event marks its fifth anniversary.

The call was made on Wednesday in Lagos, where the team unveiled details of the 2025 edition of the awards, which celebrate leaders, innovators, and role models whose works have left a lasting impact in Africa and beyond.

The Africa Illustrious Awards, established in 2020, has become one of the most respected honours on the continent, recognising excellence in leadership, business, public service, sports, media, technology, and social enterprise.

The organisers noted that the awards go beyond annual celebrations, describing them as a platform that affirms the belief that “greatness is never accidental” and that impactful works must speak louder than intentions.

Over the years, recipients have included former Nigerian President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, described as a symbol of peaceful leadership; Dr Absalom Themba Dlamini, former Prime Minister of Eswatini; Dr Alfred Mutua, former Governor of Machakos County; and several distinguished figures from the public and private sectors, academia, sports and the arts.

According to the organisers, winners are selected through a transparent process conducted by an independent panel of journalists, academics, and industry experts to ensure credibility and fairness.

They urged Africans, both young and old, to embrace hard work, integrity, and passion in their endeavours, adding, “The world is watching, and history will always remember.”
