The Nigerian Navy under the leadership of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla on Thursday inaugurated and handed over a newly constructed staff duty cabin and renovation of the Orile Agege Primary Healthcare Center as part of their Civil Military Cooperation's mandate.
Ogalla launched the Special Quick Intervention Project in 2024 to facilitate the attainment of the reinvigorated Nigerian Navy’s Civil Military Cooperation’s mandate and to contribute to ongoing Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The CNS was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Doctrine Command, Rear Adm. Shehu Gombe.
Ogalla said that the projects included a newly constructed and furnished Duty-staff cabins, renovation of the Maternity Ward including installation of a 6.5Kva solar powered inverter system.
"Others are renovation of the Immunization, Family Planning, TB Ward and Outpatient departments," he said.
The CNS said that the Special Intervention Quick Impact Project undertaken by the illustrious son of the community, Rear Adm. Saheed Akinwande was yet another watershed in the Nigerian Navy civil-military cooperation annals.
"These projects were avenues for the Nigerian Navy to honour its accomplished senior officers as well as indication that beyond physically securing lives and properties, the navy is committed to serving the interests of Nigerians through other ways.
"Not only do these projects align with the vision of President Bola Tinubu, it aptly captures the essence of the Quick Impact Projects as conceived by my administration.
"According to Roy T Bennett “Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness of people”," Ogalla said.
The CNS added that Akinwande’s choice to put smiles on the faces of the community typified Maya Angelou’s words that kindness takes courage.
"We therefore salute the senior officer’s mettle and urge him on to more humanitarian endeavours.
"Therefore, we are convinced that these projects will enhance the quality of lives in this community, I believe that the senior officer and indeed the Nigerian Navy will certainly not be hurriedly forgotten.
"I wish to enjoin the beneficiaries to please use the facilities responsibly so they will endure," Ogalla said.
Also speaking, Rear Adm. Akinwande, the project facilitator appreciated the CNS for his idea in conceiving the Special Intervention Quick Impact Project.
Akinwande said that the project was an avenue for the Nigerian Navy to contribute to the development of selected communities in order to enhance overall national security and development.
"To demonstrate the commitment to the project, the support from the Medical and Admin staff at the health centre have been very encouraging.
"The support saw the timely execution of the project which is now ready for handover for use by the good people of Orile Agege and neighbouring communities.
"I am optimistic that these intervention projects have brought Renewed Hope to the members of community," he said.
Akinwande said that the project would contribute to enhancing Child and Maternal Health in the Community.
He urged the people of Orile Agege to take full ownership and responsibility in ensuring that it serves its purpose for generations to come.
The Chairman, Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Mr Akinola Abiodun said that the project represented more than just infrastructure but a symbol of shared commitment to progress, resilience, and community well-being.
Abiodun commended all stakeholders involved, especially the implementing partners under the CNS Special Intervention Quick Impact Project, for their professionalism and dedication.
