Over 400 people have benefitted from the medical outreach organised by the 1985 pioneering set of Ilamoye Grammar School, Okota, in celebration of their 40th anniversary.

ReelzzNewzz24 reports that the medical outreach took place on Saturday at Okota Country Club, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos State, close to where the school is located.

Mr Abiodun Ganui, President, Ilamoye Old Student Association, 1985 set, said that the medical outreach was organised to give back to the community that made them into successful people they were today.

"This celebration marks our 40 years after school so we decide to have a medical outreach in Okota where our school is situated as part of the line-up programme for the 40th anniversary.

"With the situation of things in the country, almost everyone has one illness they are managing while some can't even afford medical treatment for their health.

"So, the little we feel we can do to give back to the community that impacted value in us, is what birthed the idea of the medical rhapsody," he said.

The president said that he was really impressed with the turnout of people for the outreach indicating that the outreach met it's aim and objectives for which it was organised.

"We actually planned for 300 people but we ended up attending to over 400 people which is a plus to us," Ganui said.

Rear Adm. Joseph Akpan, Chairman, Organising Committee for the occasion said that the celebration would be a week-long occasion.

Akpan said the occasion started with a Jumat prayer on Friday followed by the medical outreach while there would be a thanksgiving service on Sunday.

"On Tuesday we will be visiting our school to encourage the students to take their studies seriously in order to emulate some of us who have done well in the society.

"On Wednesday we will be visiting the family of the late Chief Lateef Jakande because he was the one that pioneered free education in the state," he said.

The admiral said that most of them became what they were today as a result of late Jakande's free education scheme, therefore became necessary to extend their thanks to his family.

Akpan appreciated the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo for the role they played in providing personnel to help carry out various health test and assessments on those who needed medical attention.

Capt. Aliyu Oyeneyin, Commander, Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo said the admiral was his boss and it was a pleasure to honour his request to help make the medical outreach a success.

"We came with our team of medical personnel to help render healthcare service delivery starting from medications, anti-malarial drugs to dental, laboratory and even public health.

"Insecticide treated mosquito nets were issued as part of the services provided today and these services and goods rendered were purely powered by the alumni association.

"We are only here to support by providing personnel and ensure a hitch free exercise," he said.

Oyeneyin added that the Nigerian Navy regularly organised medical outreach as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility in the various committee were they are situated all over the country.

"We have Navy hospitals and medical centers all over the country where there is naval presence and those services are also extended to host communities.

"So, I encourage the public to use our facilities because we are here to serve the Nigerian people," the captain said.

Mrs Aisha Yakubu, one of the beneficiary was happy because she was able to get some drugs for her three year old son who recently developed a fever.

ReelzzNewzz24 reports that several people got eye glasses, medications, mosquito nets and they were all grateful to the Ilamoye Grammar School alumni and naval personnel who made the event a success.
