Tinubu commissions warships, helicopters

The President of Nigeria, Mr Bola Tinubu has commissioned three Nigerian Navy (NN) warships, and two helicopters of the Nigerian Navy so as to maximise the benefits of the Blue Economy in the country.

Tinubu also declared open the 2024 Nigerian Navy International Maritime Conference.

The President was represented by Vice President, Kashim Shettima who also flagged off the Regional Maritime Exercise (REMEX) on May 30 at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

These events were to commemorate the Nigerian Navy's 68th anniversary.

The theme of the Conference was titled: “Promoting the Blue Economy in Africa through International Cooperation on Maritime Security”.

The theme discussed how to optimise the benefits of the Blue Economy for economic growth.



ReelzzNewzz24 reports that the three newly acquired Nigerian Navy Ships (NNS) and two helicopters commissioned by the vice president were; NNS OCHUZOR -35m Hydrographic Survey Vessel, NNS CHALAWA - 32m Seaward Defence Boat (SDB).

Others are NNS ZUR 32m (Seaward Defence Boat) and the two helicopters were Helo NN 412 and Helo NN 414.

Tinubu commended the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla and the officers and soldiers of the NN for creating a safe and secure maritime environment.

"The President referred to the NN as "lifeguards of Nigeria's Maritime Environment".

Tinubu said that NN anti- crude oil theft operations under Ogalla'a watch had led to increasing levels oil production for Nigeria. 

Navies from other countries that participated in the maritime exercise include Brazil, Cameroon, China and eleven Nigerian Navy ships with two helicopters.

Several countries also attended Day 1 of the IMC 2024, including U.S, South Korea, France, China, UK, Spain, Russia, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Equitorial Guinea, Gambia and Republic of Benin.

NATE Unveils Locally Made Industrial Tiger-Nut Processing Machine

The National Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) has fabricated an industrial Tiger-Nut processing machine to boost the nation’s agricultural sector. Mr Kayode Ibidapo, Chairman of NATE, Lagos Branch, made this known during the association’s 2023 award ceremony, induction of new members and the unveiling of the industrial tiger-nut processing machine at FIIRO, Oshodi, Lagos. The theme of the event was, “Technological Advancement and the Nation’s Economic Growth. Ibidapo said that the machine was fabricated with raw materials gathered from Nigeria, and could be used for extracting high-quality milk from both tiger-nuts and coconut. Lagos Lawmaker Distributes Back-To-School Bags To Students

Princess Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon, the member representing Lagos Island Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly has distributed back-to-school bags to pupils and students from 17 schools in the area. Speaking at the event on Saturday, Oyekan-Olumegbon said the school bags contained notebooks and stationeries. According to her, the back-to-school outreach will help to reduce the financial burden on parents as the children resume school.
